To Understand His Greatness

The spiritual grandfather of the Hare Krishna movement is Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami Maharaja. A great scholar, lifelong ascetic and powerful preacher, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta wrote many books and established temples throughout India to make known the eternal teachings of Krishna consciousness. In 1933, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta became the spiritual master of Abhay Charan De, who was later to be known as His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. In 1936, just days before departing from this world, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta specifically ordered Srila Prabhupada to spread Krishna consciousness in the English language. It is to fulfill this order that Srila Prabhupada has come to the West.
