Dharma—Nature, Duty, and Divine Service
Dhanna as occupational duty. According to their personal qualities and work, people in all societies naturally tend toward four basic kinds of occupations- scholarship and teaching; public administration and the mil itary; farming and business; and crafts and manual labor. The Vedic social system directs these occupational engagements toward service to God. (Unlike the present caste system of India, the Vedic social system assigns duties according to one's qualifications, not merely one's birth.)
